Dr. Andres Carrillo is an Associate Professor of Exercise Science at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. He earned a PhD in Health and Kinesiology with a minor in Gerontology from Purdue University. His research interests focus on the relationships between nutrition, exercise, and environmental stressors that influence general health and longevity.

Andres E. Carrillo

Andres E. Carrillo

Dr. Andres Carrillo is an Associate Professor of Exercise Science at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. He earned a PhD in Health and Kinesiology with a minor in Gerontology from Purdue University. His research interests focus on the relationships between nutrition, exercise, and environmental stressors that influence general health and longevity.
As an educator, Dr. Carrillo’s efforts focus on undergraduate education, serving as the professor of record of several health-related courses, including Exercise and Nutrition, Exercise and the Environment, and Exercise and Aging. Prior to beginning his academic career at Chatham University, Dr. Carrillo worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Research and Technology Thessaly in Trikala, Greece. Currently, he maintains a close collaboration with scientists at the Functional Architecture of Mammals in their Environment (FAME) Laboratory at the University of Thessaly in Greece. Dr. Carrillo currently serves on the board of directors for the Gerald P. Murphy Cancer Foundation—a non-profit organization conducting innovative research for personalized cancer prevention.

Rob Lettan​

Dr. Rob Lettan is the Chair of the Science Division and an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. He earned a BS in Chemistry from Otterbein University and his PhD in Organic Chemistry from Northwestern University. Prior to beginning his academic career at Chatham, Dr. Lettan was a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Lettan’s research group utilizes small molecule synthesis to explore the development of novel therapeutics.
While at Chatham, Dr. Lettan has also been the principle instructor for Organic Chemistry. He has taught several other courses, including Biochemistry I & II, Environmental Chemistry, and Scientific Research Methods. Dr. Lettan utilizes active learning techniques mixed with in-class collaborative learning problem solving to promote critical analysis and professional skills development.
Dr. Lettan has previously worked closely with Dr. Andres Carrillo, Dr. Andreas Flouris, and the members of the Functional Architecture of Mammals in their Environment (FAME) Laboratory at the University of Thessaly to provide the Discovery Program for Chatham students in 2018 and 2019. He has also had the fortune to be the co-faculty leader on four other Chatham Abroad trips to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador and the Pantanal region of Brazil.

Dr Andreas Flouris is an Associate Professor at the University of Thessaly, Greece, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada. At University of Thessaly, he is also the Chair of the Graduate Program “Military Fitness and Wellbeing” and a member of the University's Council for Research, Innovation, and Excellence.

Dr. Andreas Flouris

Dr. Andreas Flouris

Dr Andreas Flouris is an Associate Professor at the University of Thessaly, Greece, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada. At University of Thessaly, he is also the Chair of the Graduate Program “Military Fitness and Wellbeing” and a member of the University's Council for Research, Innovation, and Excellence.
In addition, he is an External Advisory Board Member for the Department of Biosystems at KU Leuven in Belgium. For over 15 years, Andreas has advised governments and international organizations, including the Cypriot Presidency, the Greek Ministry of Labour, and the Qatari Ministry of Labour, the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the European Space Agency, and NASA, on the health effects of climate change and environmental factors, and on environmental sustainability, health impact assessment, and risk communication.
He is contributing to a series of large international research projects in Europe and North America and he has published widely on the effects of different environmental factors on human health, productivity, and performance. He is currently participating in several Working Groups tasked to develop prevention measures to reduce the impacts of environmental factors for workers, athletes, and the general population. In addition to his research efforts, Andreas is a climate action advocate, and he is working with national and international institutions to support climate action for a more sustainable world. He frequently comments in national and global media, including BBC, CBC, Time magazine, Financial Times, New York Times, and HBO.

Dr. Amorim completed her PhD at the University of Porto (Portugal) and University of Wolverhampton (United Kingdom). Her PhD focused on understanding mechanisms of osteoporosis in pre-menopausal populations.

Dr. Amorim completed her PhD at the University of Porto (Portugal) and University of Wolverhampton (United Kingdom). Her PhD focused on understanding mechanisms of osteoporosis in pre-menopausal populations.
Dr. Amorim is currently investigating the effects of fasting on bone metabolism and understanding the health consequences of caloric restriction with a focus on both bone cells and bone marrow adipose tissue at the University of Pittsburgh (USA). She currently serves on the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research Early-Stage Investigator Subcommittee, and Bone Marrow Adiposity Society Next Generation Committee.
